Hey guys! I need your help!!!! I just went into a local pet store to buy crickets for my frogs. They also carry guinea pigs and small animals at this place, so I figured I'd take a look. I was DISGUSTED to find that they had 5 nearly full grown male guinea pigs crammed into a tiny 10-gallon fish tank. They were so smushed, and sad. They barely even had enough room to scratch themselves. On top that, I bet they were living in their own waste because the tank was so tiny(I couldn't see the floor.). They also had 3 full-grown females in a same sized tank right next to that. Those tanks were not fit for even ONE piggy, much less three or five. Sorry, I know I'm ranting, but I love my piggies so much and when a see one that's not being treated right I get so p'o-ed. Any ideas on what I can do to help those poor piggies or stop the store from doing this. I know they're just little things, but everybody(even guinea pigs) deserves to be treated properly.
P.S. I'm only a teenager, so not many people will take me seriously if I tell them about this.
HELP!!!!!

i don't think the store is going to do anything. i love my piggies too but the sad truth is that most people don't care. i mean, companies and med students test on these little guys all the time. i have a hard time believing that a pet store would care. you could always talk to the manager but remember, he's more interested in money than being ethical.
1I know bluejeanie. That's the part that really saddens me. I've seen them in some pretty small cages before too, but this nearly made me cry. They were living in their own waste, might have upper respiratory infections, and were just all around being killed by the condition of their living quarters. I don't see how anybody could be that mean, but I suppose that's just life.
2It couldn't hurt to talk to the manager. Then if that doesn't work you can vote with your feet: walk out and don't go back. You can also try talking to the manager and tell him/her why you won't be coming back, and why you're going to tell all of your friends to do the same.
3well maybe you can have your parents talk to a manager. but you definitely have to talk to a manager first just to see what they say, so you can take the next step.
4keep us posted.
If you have a vet, give them a call and ask advice. Otherwise, I might seek out your local SPCA and file a complaint.
